EXPECT LONGER WAIT TIMES
Due to COVID, just as other companies, we have suffered a large drop in our workforce. Although this has been beyond our control we apologize in advance for any wait times.

Social distancing only allows us to have 3 Rental Agents in the counter area instead of our usual 5

Our night shift (10pm-6am) only has 2 workers and they must take a 1/2 break in order to comply with all Department of Labor regulations. The office will close during their required break.

You can help expedite all rentals by having all of your insurance information ready (if you are using personal insurance) once you arrive.
Please look over all rental rules and debit card rental rules prior to your arrival.

INSURANCE POLICY
INSURANCE REQUIRMENTS

Damage Waiver (CDW) and Basic Liability Insurance (BLI) offered by Charlie Car Rental are always optional when you provide valid proof of insurance. Should you have a deductible it must also be shown.

IF YOU WISH TO DENY OUR COVERAGE YOU MUST SHOW YOUR INSURANCE POLICY AT THE TIME OF RENTAL.

Your insurance must cover the rented vehicle in it's entirety and have liability as well. A simply phone call to your insurance company can confirm that you have both and or any deductibles you may have.

Should your insurance coverage only provide for Liability then the LDW must be taken. Should you not have any liability insurance then the BLI must be taken as Puerto Rico law states that the RENTER of our vehicle is held responsible for any and all damages caused to a third party if at fault. Should you need liability coverage we offer liability insurance for $14.99 p/dy with a 10/25/10 coverage. For NON-U.S. RESIDENTS that cannot provide proof of liability insurance this will be a mandatory charge.

Rented vehicle credit card coverage: Should you have a credit card that covers a rented vehicle valid proof of liability insurance must shown as credit card insurance does not cover liability.

Policies purchased online are not from Charlie Car Rental but from a Third-Party vendor. Please verify that you are covered in Puerto Rico

DEBIT CARD RENTAL RULES
ONLY bank issued debit cards that work with a bank account are permitted. No pre-paid cards are allowed. Any category vehicle can be rented. A $250.00 deposit is required for all rentals. The deposit is charged at the time of rental and a refund is given for $250.00 once the vehicle is returned on its due date and no further amount is due. Loss Damage waiver and Liability Insurance are optional when valid proof of insurance is shown.

-If no insurance is shown by the renter the TPP (Total Protection Package) or SPP (Supplemental Protection Package) will be mandatory. The deposit will then be $150.00 in addition to the estimated total.
-If a client only has proof of liability coverage then the LDW must be taken. The deposit will then be $150.00 in addition to the estimated total.
-If the client has insurance covering COMP/COLL/LIABILITY then the DDW can be taken, which covers what insurance policies do not including their deductible. The deposit will then be $150.00 in addition to the estimated total.
-If the client wishes to decline all waivers due to having a full transferable insurance policy, then the deposit will be between $500.00 - $1000 plus the estimated rental depending on your deductible.

PLEASE SHOW YOUR POLICY AT THE TIME OF RENTAL TO DENY THE OPTIONAL COVERAGE'S, NOT BEFORE.

WARNING: Although Charlie Car Rental immediately gives a refund the actual refunded amount may take between 7-10 business days to reflect onto your account depending on your bank. Charlie Car Rental is not responsible for any of our customer's Bank Non-Sufficient Funds Fees arising from delayed deposit refunds.



Deposit policy
A $250.00 deposit is required on all rental types at the time of rental along with the total amount due for the rental. The deposit is refunded once the vehicle is returned if no further charges apply.

EXCEPTIONS:

If TPP / SPP / LDW / DDW are taken the deposit is $150.00


Protection Packages
TPP - TOTAL PROTECTION PLAN: This covers the rental vehicle completely with a zero financial responsibility, it covers personal effects and liability as well. (LDW/PEC/BLI). Many customers prefer this for TOTAL PEACE OF MIND!

SPP – STANDARD PROTECTION PLAN: This covers the rental vehicle completely with a zero financial responsibility and liability. (LDW/BLI). Most customers prefer this for PEACE OF MIND and GREAT VALUE!

CCPP – CREDIT CARD PROTECTION PLAN: With this protection option customer receives a full complementary service to the car rental coverage provided by many credit card companies. It covers what credit cards do not i.e.: Liability (BLI), Loss of Us, Administrative Fees, and Diminution of Value.

LDW – LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER: With this protection the customer waives their financial responsibility of the Rental Car. It covers the rental car with a zero deductible for any damages including tires and glass. Customer has to show proof of insurance in order to decline this protection option. (This replaces our CDW)

DDW – DEDUCTIBLE DAMAGE WAIVER: With this protection customers insurance deductible ($500.00 - -$1000.00) is covered as well as items not covered by personal insurance products such as Administrative Fees, Loss of Use, and Diminution of Value. Only customers with verified proof of comprehensive and collision coverage of their own can purchase this protection. This protection option works perfectly in conjunction with personal insurance policies.

BLI – BASIC LIABILITY INSURANCE: With this protection customer receives 10/20/10 in liability limits. If customer does not bring proof of liability insurance then the purchase of this protection becomes a necessary condition of the rental.

PEC – PERSONAL EFFECTS COVERAGE: This covers personal effects in the event of theft from the vehicle. It covers up to $2000 per occurrence and carries a $100 deductible per person. Excludes all electronics, prosthetics, glasses, jewelry, cash etc. Only covers suitcases, clothes and personal hygiene items. Must have police reports and signs of forced entry to the car. Only available with the purchase of the TPP.

Toll options
PRE-PAID TOLL OPTIONS:

1. Prepaid Toll Option: Customer prepays Charlie Car Rental $8.99 per day for unlimited toll usage.
2. Post Pay Toll Option: Customer pays a $25.00 One-time Administrative Fee, in addition to the tolls consumed during their rental.


WARNING: Should you not choose the easy pass option and the easy pass lane is used a $35.00 administrative fee plus all used tolls will apply.

High season reservations policy
Due to the high demand during high season a strict ONE HOUR grace period for reservation arrivals is observed. If you think that you will arrive late for your reservation you must call to extend your arrival time in order to avoid your reservation to be automatically cancelled.

NON SMOKING VEHICLES
Please DO NOT smoke in any of our vehicles. Our entire fleet has been designated as NON-SMOKING.

A $250.00 charge will apply if any cigarette smoke is detected.

Damages/Accidents
IN THE EVENT OF ANY DAMAGE TO THE RENTAL VEHICLE, CUSTOMERS MUST FOLLOW THE CORRECT REPORTING PROCEDURE:

1. MUST GET A POLICE REPORT: In the event the police is not available or the police simply do not wish to issue a report, or a report #, the customer MUST call the main rental office in Isla Verde immediately and notify that a report was not offered by the police department.

2. CUSTOMER MUST REPORT ANY AND ALL DAMAGES TO THE NEAREST RENTAL OFFICE WITHIN 12 HOURS OF THE INCIDENT: If the customer is too far from the nearest office, customer MUST call the main office to notify them why they cannot physically report the damages to the nearest rental office.

3. CUSTOMER MUST PAY FOR ANY DAMAGES ON THE SPOT DIRECTLY TO CHARLIE CAR RENTAL IF THEY HAVE DECLINED ANY AND ALL CHARLIE CAR RENTAL WAIVER COVERAGE: Customer is to seek reimbursement directly from their source of coverage . If customer purchased TPP/SPP/LDW then the damages will not be charged to the customer if the proper reporting procedure was followed. Charlie Car Rental does not cover negligent damages nor improper reported damage.

SOCIAL DISTANCING AND CLEANING POLICIES AMID COVID-19
New measures have been put into place in order to ensure your safety as well as our employees.

Only the person renting will be allowed inside of the office, all others in the party must remain outside. A face mask MUST be worn in order to be allowed inside the office. Once inside a strict 6 foot distance from each person must be observed. Distance is marked on the floor.

Just before being attended by our staff you must wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.

Our employees are now behind a plexiglass and all will have on masks.






INTERNET RATES
Internet rates are valid with a reservation only and CANNOT be honored without a reservation.

Reservations made at any particular office can only be honored at the office the reservation was made at. Example: A reservation made for our BQN (Aguadilla) office cannot be honored at our MAR/SJU office.

Walk-up rates are higher that reservation rates so we recommend making a reservation ahead of time.

DRIVERS LICENSE POLICY
Only a valid non-expired driver's license can be accepted for a rental. No temporary, expired, or interim license can be accepted for a rental.

Non U.S./Foreign license : A foreign driver's license can be used as long as we can identify the driver's name,home address, driver's license number and expiration date.

International drivers license: Can be used to rent a vehicle.

Special Internet Rates
Any specials offered online are only valid for your specific rental dates. Any extensions after your original return date are subject to a daily surcharge.

Condado Office hours
The Condado office is open everyday from 7AM-7PM. The office will be closed from 12PM to 1PM everyday for lunch.
Shuttle service to/from cruise ship area or hotels is available everyday between 8am-4pm.

Emergency Roadside Assitance
EMERGENCY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE – ERA:
All customers are automatically enrolled in our ERA program which will give our customers all Roadside Assistance Services without charge:
- Tire Change Service
- Out of Gas Service (Incl. 5 Gal)
- Battery Jump Service
- All Lost, Stolen, Broken, Locked Keys will be replaced FREE OF CHARGE!

Customers may opt out of this option at the time of the rental. If they choose to do so, Charlie Car Rental will still provide Emergency Roadside Assistance Services but customer will pay for each service:
- $49 for the service call
- $0.50 per mile
- Gas Costs
- Key Replacement Costs up to $500

Age Requirements
Minimum Age: 21
Age 21 to 24 - $10.00 p/dy surcharge applies. ONLY a 2dr, compact or mid-size car can be rented. Valid NON-DEBIT credit card. Optional damage waiver = $21.99 p/dy with a $500.00 ded.
Age 25 and over
Only a sub-compact, compact,or mid-size vehicle can be rented by anyone under 25 years of age.

Additional Drivers
1 additional drivers permitted an additional charge of $ 4.99 applies per day(per additional driver)
Minimum Age for Additional Drivers: 25
There is a $4.99 per day charge for additional drivers.

Driving Area
Car canot be taken off of the island. If the car is taken by ferry to a neighboring Island (Vieques or Culebra), LDW will not cover.

Fuel Policy
Vehicles must be returned with the fuel tank: Full
Fuel surcharges will apply. Price depends on current market. Ask at counter.

Deposit Requirements
Cash deposits are not accepted.
