SHUTTLE SERVICE
Once you have all of your baggage, please call 787.728.2418 for San Juan and Ext.421 for Aguadilla.
The shuttle pickup area for San Juan is located at terminal B between columns 1 - 5, directly in front of the on-airport car rental center. All airlines except for JetBlue have a baggage claim exit via terminal B.
If you fly with JetBlue (Terminal A), you will need to walk to terminal B. Our shuttle has the ACE logo and CHARLIE’s logo on it.
For Aguadilla the pickup is located just outside, across from the airline counters or ask a security guard.
INSURANCE POLICY / REQUIRMENTS
INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
Damage Waiver (LDW) and Basic Liability Insurance (BLI) offered by Charlie Car Rental are always optional when you provide valid proof of insurance. Should you have a deductible it must also be shown.
PROOF OF PROPER COVERAGE MUST BE SHOWN AT THE COUNTER. Please verify that:
1-You have coverage in Puerto Rico
2-The vehicle is covered up to it's current value (collision, comprehensive)
3-You must have liability coverage
Just as in the U.S., liability insurance is mandatory in order to drive.
4-Your deductible must be shown. A deductible is your direct out of pocket cost. The funds must be guaranteed available via a refundable deposit.
For NON-U.S. RESIDENTS that cannot provide proof of liability insurance this will be a mandatory charge.
Rented vehicle credit card coverage: Should you have a credit card that covers a rented vehicle , PROOF MUST BE SHOWN OR A CALL MADE TO YOUR CREDIT CARD FOR CONFIRMATION. Many losses have occured as some clients did not know they had no coverage.
INTERNET INSURANCE: Accepted as long as it covers all areas
ATTENTION: IF YOUR POLICY ONLY COVERS THE LIABILITY THEN THE LDW (CAR PROTECTION) MUST BE TAKEN, IF YOUR POLICY ONLY COVERS THE RENTED VEHICLE THEN THE BLI (LIABILITY)MUST BE TAKEN. Just as in the U.S. liability insurance is mandatory in order to drive.
CLEANING FEE POLICY
Vehicles returned with excessive sand/dirt will incur in additional charges staring at $150.00 at the end of the rental.
EXCESSIVE SAND DIRT MEANS: Pet hair or Sand on seats, dash, cup holders, in short anything above the floor.
Stains caused by sun tan lotion, surf board wax on the roof or seats are also charged.
This charge can be avoided by simply dusting yourself off and being dry or using a towel before entering the vehicle. Clients will be offered the opportunity to clean out any excessive sand/dirt at the time of return in order to avoid this charge.
NO SMOKING ALLOWED IN THE VEHICLES
Absolutely no smoking of any kind is allowed in any of our rental vehicles. There are signs posted throughout the facilities and you will be required to sign a document acknowledging that you or anyone else will not smoke inside of our vehicle or there will be a $250.00 fine With ample signage and warnings not to smoke prior to your rental, if upon your return smoke is detected the $250.00 fin will be strickly enforced.
Deposit policy
A $250.00 minimum deposit is required on all rental types at the time of rental along with the total amount due for the rental. The deposit is refunded once the vehicle is returned if no further charges apply.
EXCEPTIONS:
If you are using your personal car insurance that covers all required areas the deposit will be in the amount of your deductible. Please remember that the deductible amount is your direct responsibility to cover and must be guaranteed via a refundable deposit.
If TPP / SPP / LDW / DDW are taken the deposit is $150.00
Toll options
PRE-PAID TOLL OPTIONS:
1. Prepaid Toll Option: Customer prepays Charlie Car Rental $10.99 per day for unlimited toll usage.
2. Post Pay Toll Option: Customer pays a $25.00 One-time Administrative Fee, in addition to the tolls consumed during their rental. Tolls used by the client will be charged at the end of your rental.
WARNING: Should you not choose the easy pass option and the easy pass lane is used a $35.00 administrative fee plus all used tolls will apply.
Emergency Roadside Assitance
EMERGENCY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE – ERA:
All customers are automatically enrolled in our ERA program which will give our customers all Roadside Assistance Services without charge:
- Tire Change Service
- Out of Gas Service (Incl. 5 Gal)
- Battery Jump Service
- FREE OF CHARGE!
Customers may opt out of this option at the time of the rental. If they choose to do so, Charlie Car Rental will still provide Emergency Roadside Assistance Services but customer will pay for each service:
- $49 for the service call
- $0.50 per mile

Protection Packages
TPP - TOTAL PROTECTION PLAN: This covers the rental vehicle completely with a zero financial responsibility, it covers personal effects and liability as well. (LDW/PEC/BLI). Many customers prefer this for TOTAL PEACE OF MIND!
SPP – STANDARD PROTECTION PLAN: This covers the rental vehicle completely with a zero financial responsibility and liability. (LDW/BLI). Most customers prefer this for PEACE OF MIND and GREAT VALUE!
CCPP – CREDIT CARD PROTECTION PLAN: With this protection option customer receives a full complementary service to the car rental coverage provided by many credit card companies. It covers what credit cards do not i.e.: Liability (BLI), Loss of Us, Administrative Fees, and Diminution of Value.
LDW – LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER: With this protection the customer waives their financial responsibility of the Rental Car. It covers the rental car with a zero deductible for any damages including tires and glass. Customer has to show proof of insurance in order to decline this protection option. (This replaces our CDW)
DDW – DEDUCTIBLE DAMAGE WAIVER: With this protection customers insurance deductible ($500.00 - -$1000.00) is covered as well as items not covered by personal insurance products such as Administrative Fees, Loss of Use, and Diminution of Value. Only customers with verified proof of comprehensive and collision coverage of their own can purchase this protection. This protection option works perfectly in conjunction with personal insurance policies.
BLI – BASIC LIABILITY INSURANCE: With this protection customer receives 10/20/10 in liability limits. If customer does not bring proof of liability insurance then the purchase of this protection becomes a necessary condition of the rental.
PEC – PERSONAL EFFECTS COVERAGE: This covers personal effects in the event of theft from the vehicle. It covers up to $2000 per occurrence and carries a $100 deductible per person. Excludes all electronics, prosthetics, glasses, jewelry, cash etc. Only covers suitcases, clothes and personal hygiene items. Must have police reports and signs of forced entry to the car. Only available with the purchase of the TPP.
High season reservations policy
Due to the high demand during high season a strict ONE HOUR grace period for reservation arrivals is observed. If you think that you will arrive late for your reservation you must call to extend your arrival time in order to avoid your reservation to be automatically cancelled.
Damages/Accidents
IN THE EVENT OF ANY DAMAGE TO THE RENTAL VEHICLE, CUSTOMERS MUST FOLLOW THE CORRECT REPORTING PROCEDURE:
1. MUST GET A POLICE REPORT: In the event the police is not available or the police simply do not wish to issue a report, or a report #, the customer MUST call the main rental office in Isla Verde immediately and notify that a report was not offered by the police department.
2. CUSTOMER MUST REPORT ANY AND ALL DAMAGES TO THE NEAREST RENTAL OFFICE WITHIN 12 HOURS OF THE INCIDENT: If the customer is too far from the nearest office, customer MUST call the main office to notify them why they cannot physically report the damages to the nearest rental office.
3. CUSTOMER MUST PAY FOR ANY DAMAGES ON THE SPOT DIRECTLY TO CHARLIE CAR RENTAL IF THEY HAVE DECLINED ANY AND ALL CHARLIE CAR RENTAL WAIVER COVERAGE: Customer is to seek reimbursement directly from their source of coverage . If customer purchased TPP/SPP/LDW then the damages will not be charged to the customer if the proper reporting procedure was followed. Charlie Car Rental does not cover negligent damages nor improper reported damage.
DRIVERS LICENSE POLICY
Only a valid non-expired driver's license can be accepted for a rental.
Non U.S./Foreign license : A foreign driver's license can be used as long as we can identify the driver's name, home address, driver's license number and expiration date.
International driver's license: Can be used to rent a vehicle.
Reservation changes
The rate reserved is subject to changes if any change are made by the client, such as dates/times/car class, etc. The rate reserved is valid for the original dates of the rental, any extensions to your contract are subject to a change in rate.
Condado Office hours
The Condado office is open everyday from 7AM-7PM. The office will be closed from 12PM to 1PM everyday for lunch.
Shuttle service to/from cruise ship area or hotels is available everyday between 8am-4pm.
